Free crochet pattern: Faux Cable Cowl

Believe it or not, this is a BEGINNER level project. If you can chain, single crochet, and double crochet, you’ll be able to make this cute cowl that looks like cables!

US K-10.5 (6.5mm)

Gauge

Gauge is not important for this project – yay!!

Abbreviations

approx = approximately
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet

Pattern Notes
Cowl is made creating one LONG strand of short rows, then the look of cabling is created by edging the entire project, twisting as you go.

Instructions

Row 1: Ch 3, work 3 dc in 3rd ch from the hook, turn (3 dc)

Row 2: Ch 1 (does NOT count as a stitch), 3 dc in first st, turn (3 dc)

Repeat row 2 until project measures approx. 24’ (288”) – 7.32 m (731.5 cm)

Edging

Ch 1, (sc, ch 1) in ea dc across, *twist the next row down counterclockwise so that the dc are facing you, (sc, ch 1) across those three dc, repeat from * to end of project, fasten off

Assembly

Wrap strand around a piece of cardboard cut to 24” (or to length that you desire), once completely wrapped, use the beginning and end of strand to secure the cowl by tying them together around all the strands.

Wear the cowl two different ways! On the left as assembled, and on the right by twisting once and putting it over your head one more time.
