Sitting in the stands one freezing November day, I was sure this would be the homecoming my ears fell off, and I would have to carry them home to stick them back on later. No more! I’ve made this one in my old school colors, but you can change yarns if you root for someone other than the ol’ Red and White.

You Will Need
Color A: 38yd/35m of super bulky yarn
Color B: 8yd/7.5m of super bulky yarn
Shown in: Caron Simply Soft Quick, 100% acrylic, 3oz/85g = 50yd/46m per skein
(A) 1 skein, Autumn Red (#0007)
(B) 1 skein, White (#0001)
Hook: 6.50mm (size K-10 1/2 U.S.) (or size to obtain gauge)
Yarn needle
Team spirit and snow (optional)
Stitches Used
Chain stitch (ch)
Half double crochet (hdc) Single crochet (sc)
Slip stitch (sl st)
Special Stitch
Single crochet two together (sc2tog): (Insert hook in next st, yo, draw yarn through st) twice, yo, draw yarn through 3 lps on hook.
Gauge
13 sts x 11 rows = 4”/10cm in sc in BL only
Always take time to check your gauge.
First Half
With A, ch 17.
Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn-16 sc.
Rows 2-12: Ch 1, sc in BL of each sc across, turn.
Rows 13-17: Ch 1, working in BL of sts, sc in first sc, sc2tog in next 2 sts, sc in each sc across to within last 3 sts, sc2tog in next 2 sts, sc in last sc, turn-6 sc rem at end of row 17.
Rows 18-29: Ch 1, sc in BL of each st across, turn.
Fasten off.
Second Half
Row 1: With RS facing, working across opposite side of foundation ch, join A with sc in the 1st foundation ch, sc in each ch across, turn-16 sc.
Rows 2-29: Rep rows 2-29 of First Half. Fasten off.
Assemble
Fold project in half along foundation ch with RS together, whipstitch rows 29 together to form headband. Turn headband RS out.
Finishing
FIRST EDGING
Rnd 1: With RS facing, join A with sc along one side edge, sc evenly around one side of headband, slip st to first sc to join. Fasten off.
Rnd 2: With WS facing, join B with sl st to FL of any st in rnd 1 of edging, ch 2, hdc in FL of each sc around, sl st in top of beg ch-2 to join. Fasten off.
SECOND EDGING
Rep First Edging on other side edge of headband.
Weave in ends.
