Materials

Body (sport weight yarn) – 880 (1,320, 1,320, 1,320, 1,320) yds

Edges (DK weight yarn) – 440 (880, 880, 880, 880) yds

The Crochet Dude® Ergo Hook size US F-5 (3.75mm)

  or size needed to obtain gauge

Yarn snips, yarn needle

Gauge

24 sts and 15 rows = 4″ in 1×1 dc ribbing

(Be sure to check gauge!)

Special stitches:

Cable – skip 2 sts, fpdc around next st, bpdc around 2nd skipped st, fpdc around 1st skipped st.

Picot – ch 3, sc in first ch.

Front Post dc (fpdc) – yarn over, put your hook AROUND the post of the dc of the row below, going from the front, around the back, and through to the front again. Yarn over, pull through, (yarn over, pull through two loops on hook) 2x.

Back Post dc (bpdc) – yarn over, put your hook AROUND the post of the dc of the row below, going from the back, around the front, and through to the back again. Yarn over, pull through, (yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook) 2x.

Notes:

Garment is first worked flat in one piece, from waist cabling to underarms. Once assembled, it is turned over and worked from original foundation down to hemline in rounds.

Ch-2 at beg of row and hdc at end of row count as sts.

Instructions

WAIST

With Sportweight yarn:

Foundation Row: Ch 162 (178, 198 218, 238), dc into 4th ch from hook and into each dc across. Ch-3 at beg counts as dc. – 160 (176, 196, 216, 236) dc

Row 1: Ch 2, turn, skip first st, *bpdc around next st, fpdc around next st, repeat from * across, ending with a hdc in last st.

Row 2 (RS): Ch 2, turn, skip first st *cable in next 3 sts, bpdc in next st, repeat from * across, ending with a hdc in last st.

Rows 3-14: Repeat Rows 1-2, six times.

Row 15: Ch 2, turn, skip first st, *bpdc around next st, fpdc around next st, repeat from * across, ending with a hdc in last st.

Row 16: Ch 2, turn, skip first st, *fpdc around next st, bpdc around next st, repeat from * across, ending with a hdc in last st.

Rows 17-20:  Repeat Rows 15-16, two times.

Fasten off.

Fold rectangle in half, RS facing, and whipstitch the hdc at the ends of the rows together. Continue with pattern as follows:

FRONT

With the WS seam you just created facing you and counting seam as a st, skip 6 (7, 9, 12, 14) sts for half of armhole, and attach yarn with a hdc in next st.

Row 21: Continue in ribbing as established for 66 (72, 78, 82, 88) sts, hdc in next st –  68 (74, 80, 84, 90) sts.

Rows 22-40: Work in ribbing pattern as established.

Fasten off

BACK

With WS facing you return to Row 20, skip 12 (14, 18, 24, 28) sts to create armhole, attach yarn and work back same as front.

SHOULDERS

With RS facing whipstitch the four stitches together at each shoulder.

SHOULDER RUFFLE

With DK weight yarn

With WS facing, attach yarn with a sc to any st around neckline. 

Rnd 1: Work 197 (215, 227, 245, 260) more sc evenly all the way around the neckline. Slip st to first sc to join.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, turn, dc in same st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next st, *(2 dc in next st) twice, dc in next st, repeat from * around.  Slip st to top of beginning ch-3 to join.

Rnd 3: Turn, slip st in next st and between the next two sts.  Ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same space.  Skip 2 sts, fpdc around next st, *skip 1 st (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in between next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, fpdc around next st, repeat from * around.  Slip st to top of beginning ch-3 to join.

Do not turn for the remainder of shoulder ruffle.

Rnd 4: Slip st in next st and into ch-2 sp,  ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same space.  Skip 2 sts, fpdc around next st * skip 1 st (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 space, skip 2 sts, fpdc around next st, repeat from * around.  Slip st to top of beginning ch 3 to join.

Rnd 5: Slip st into ch-2 space, ch 3, (dc, picot, 2 dc) in same space, fpdc around next front post st, *(2 dc, picot, 2 dc) in next ch-2 sp, fpdc around next front post st, repeat from * around.  Slip st to top of beginning ch-3  to join. 

Fasten off.

 

HEMLINE RUFFLE

Turn garment over and working around post stitches of the foundation row, with WS facing, attach sportweight yarn with a fpdc around any front post stitch. 

Rnd 1: *Bpdc around next st, fpdc around next st, repeat from * around, slip st to top of first st to join.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, turn, work another bpdc around the same st, * fpdc around next st, (2 bpdc around next st), repeat from  * around.  Slip st to top of beginning ch-2 to join.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, turn, skip first st, * bpdc around next st, fpdc around next st, fpdc around next st,  repeat from * around.  Slip st to top of beginning ch-2 to join.

Rnd 4: Ch 2, turn, skip first st, bpdc around next st, *fpdc around next st, bpdc around next st, bpdc around next st, repeat from  * around.  Slip st to top of beginning ch-2 to join.

Rnds 5-6:  Repeat Rnds 3-4.

Fasten off

With DK weight yarn:

Rnd 7: With WS facing, attach yarn with a sl st to top of turning-ch of Rnd 6.  Repeat Rnd 3 of Hemline Ruffle. 

Rnd 8: Turn, sl st between the next two post sts. Ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same sp,  fpdc around next fpdc, * (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in between next 2 bpdc, fpdc around next fpdc, repeat from * around.  Slip st to top of beginning ch-3 to join.

Do not turn for the remainder of hip ruffle.

Rnds 9-12: Sl st into ch-2 space. Ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same space, fpdc around next fpdc, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 sp, fpdc around next fpdc, repeat from * around.  Sl st to top of beginning ch-3 to join.

Rnd 13: Slip st into ch-2 sp. Ch 3, (dc, picot, 2 dc) in same sp  fpdc around next fpdc, *(2 dc, picot, 2 dc) in next ch-2 sp, fpdc around next fpdc, repeat from * around.  Sl st to top of beginning ch-3 to join.

Fasten off.

SLEEVE CAPS

With Sportweight yarn:
With RS facing, attach yarn with a sl st to any st near the bottom of armhole.
Rnd 1: Ch 2, work an odd number of dc around armhole, evenly spaced. Join with a sl st to top of beginning ch-2 to join. Rnds 2-3: Ch 2, * fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st, repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to top of beginning ch-2.
Fasten off.
